Active Bicycles

Bicycles are a popular means of transportation. A bike has two wheels and is powered by pedals. It is an assembly of the main frame, the steering rod or the handlebar, the seat or seats, the drive train and the brakes. A bike uses a simple mechanism of pushing the wheels forward by moving the pedals in a circular motion. An iron chain connects the pedals to the wheels. To keep the bike balance, a steering rod is needed. The first bikes were built in the 19th century in Europe. Since then they have evolved into numerous models, types and designs available today. Some of the common types are tandem bikes, racing bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX bikes, folding bikes and mopeds. |
